Maureen Spencer, RN, M.Ed.
Maureen Spencer, M.Ed., R.N. is the Founder of Finding Inner Peace Yoga School and Integrative Medicine Program. She is dedicated to providing professional, quality education and services in complementary therapies. She is recognized as an Advanced Registered Yoga Teacher with the National Yoga Alliance and is the Program Director of Yoga Teacher Certification at Finding Inner Peace. She has completed yoga studies with the American Yoga College, International Yoga Studies, Integrative Yoga Therapy and Meridian Hatha Yoga Therapy.
Maureen initiated a private energy medicine practice in 1993 after completing training in Therapeutic Touch, Quantum Touch, Ear Candling, Magnified Healing and Reiki Master/Teacher. In 1997 she became certified in Vibroacoustic Sound Healing and completed training as a Clinical Aromatherapist in 2003. Maureen was first introduced to vibroacoustic healing in 1996 in a holistic center in Cape Cod in the "Dreamweaver" sound bed. Her experience was so profound that she vowed to purchase one of the vibroacoustic units when she opened her yoga studio. In Apri 1997 the center opened and her DreamWeaver arrived. During the 7 year journey with the yoga center, she accrued over 10,000 client sessions.
Maureen lectures locally and nationally on the Science of Yoga and Energy Medicine and taught Reiki Energy Healing at the New England Baptist Hospital, Boston, MA for nurses and therapists. Maureen was a founding member of the hospital's Council on Integrative Medicine and developed a Reiki policy for the Patient Care Services. She continues to teach Reiki in the Boston area and hospitals around the country.
In her professional nursing career, she is an independent Infection Preventionist Consultant and was the Corporate Director, Infection Prevention for Universal Health Services, Director Infection Control at New England Baptist Hospital and Director of the Infection Control Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. Her techniques to reduce hospital associated infections by motivating staff to comply with prevention measure, like hand washing, includes positive reinforcement, feedback techniques, role modeling, self-efficacy, contracting - all part of Social Learning Theory. These techniques work for energy medicine as well. She has reduced healthcare acquired infections significantly in all hospitals where she has been employed by integrating love-based practices such as Reiki and yoga to healthcare workers.
